About

Chloramax 5mg Tablet contains Chlorpheniramine, a first-generation antihistamine that effectively relieves symptoms associated with various allergic conditions. It works by competitively blocking histamine H1 receptors, thereby preventing histamine from binding and exerting its effects. Histamine is a natural substance released by the body during an allergic reaction, causing symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and watery eyes. By blocking these receptors, chlorpheniramine reduces the inflammatory response and alleviates these uncomfortable symptoms.

As a first-generation antihistamine, Chlorpheniramine readily crosses the blood-brain barrier, which contributes to its common side effect of drowsiness. It is metabolized in the liver and excreted primarily through the kidneys. While generally well-tolerated, its sedative properties necessitate caution, especially when operating machinery or driving. It is a widely used over-the-counter medication for seasonal allergies and common cold symptoms.

Uses

  • Relief of symptoms of allergic rhinitis (hay fever).
  • Alleviation of common cold symptoms like sneezing and runny nose.
  • Treatment of urticaria (hives) and other allergic skin conditions.

  • Lung - Use with caution in patients with asthma or other chronic lung diseases, as antihistamines can thicken bronchial secretions, potentially worsening symptoms.
