About

CTM 500 TAB contains Cefuroxime Axetil, an oral prodrug of the second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic cefuroxime. After oral administration, cefuroxime axetil is hydrolyzed in the gastrointestinal tract to release active cefuroxime, which then exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It is effective against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including many beta-lactamase-producing strains, making it a versatile antibiotic.

This medication is commonly prescribed for various bacterial infections, particularly those affecting the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, and soft tissues. Its broad spectrum of activity and good oral bioavailability make it a versatile option for community-acquired infections, offering a reliable treatment choice for many patients when susceptible organisms are identified.

Uses

  • Treatment of respiratory tract infections (e.g., bronchitis, pneumonia).
  • Management of urinary tract infections.
  • Therapy for skin and soft tissue infections.
