About

Darbepoetin alfa is a modified recombinant human erythropoietin with a longer half-life than epoetin alfa, allowing for less frequent dosing. It stimulates erythropoiesis by binding to erythropoietin receptors on erythroid progenitor cells in the bone marrow, promoting their proliferation and differentiation into mature red blood cells. This action leads to an increase in hemoglobin levels and red blood cell mass. Darbepoetin alfa is primarily used to treat anemia associated with chronic kidney disease and chemotherapy-induced anemia in cancer patients, effectively reducing the need for red blood cell transfusions and improving patient quality of life. Its extended duration of action offers convenience and sustained therapeutic effect.
