About

Etodolac is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that exhibits analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties. It works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, particularly COX-2, which leads to a reduction in the synthesis of prostaglandins, the chemical mediators responsible for pain, inflammation, and fever. The extended-release (ER) formulation allows for once-daily dosing, providing sustained therapeutic levels and prolonged relief.

This medication is primarily indicated for the long-term management of chronic inflammatory conditions such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, as well as for the treatment of acute pain. Its selective COX-2 inhibition profile may offer a potentially better gastrointestinal tolerability compared to non-selective NSAIDs, although GI risks still exist. The ER formulation enhances patient compliance by simplifying the dosing regimen while ensuring consistent pain and inflammation control.
