About
Fluconazole is a triazole antifungal agent widely used for the treatment and prevention of various fungal infections. It exerts its fungicidal or fungistatic action by inhibiting fungal cytochrome P450-dependent 14-alpha-demethylase, an essential enzyme in the biosynthesis of ergosterol, a vital component of the fungal cell membrane. This disruption leads to increased cell membrane permeability and ultimately fungal cell death.
The 200mg dosage is effective against a broad range of fungal pathogens, including Candida species, Cryptococcus neoformans, and others. Its excellent oral bioavailability, good penetration into various body tissues and fluids, and long half-life allow for convenient once-daily dosing for many indications. Fluconazole is a cornerstone in the management of systemic and superficial candidiasis, cryptococcal meningitis, and other susceptible fungal infections.
