About

Minirin Tab 0.1mg contains Desmopressin, a synthetic analogue of the natural pituitary hormone vasopressin (antidiuretic hormone). Desmopressin acts primarily on V2 receptors in the renal collecting ducts, increasing the reabsorption of water and leading to a reduction in urine volume and an increase in urine osmolality. This antidiuretic effect is crucial in conditions characterized by excessive water loss through the kidneys.

Beyond its renal effects, desmopressin also has a dose-dependent effect on hemostasis, increasing plasma levels of factor VIII and von Willebrand factor, making it useful in certain bleeding disorders. Its selective action on V2 receptors minimizes the vasoconstrictor effects associated with natural vasopressin, making it a safer and more targeted therapeutic option for its indicated uses.
