About

Omalizumab is a highly specific recombinant DNA-derived humanized monoclonal antibody that targets and binds to free human immunoglobulin E (IgE) in the circulation and interstitial fluid. This binding prevents IgE from attaching to its high-affinity receptors (FcεRI) on the surface of mast cells and basophils, which are key effector cells in allergic reactions. By effectively reducing the levels of free IgE, Omalizumab interrupts the allergic cascade, thereby inhibiting the release of various inflammatory mediators that contribute to allergic symptoms. It is clinically indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe persistent allergic asthma in adults and adolescents (aged 6 years and older) who are inadequately controlled by inhaled corticosteroids, and for chronic idiopathic urticaria (CIU) in adults and adolescents (aged 12 years and older) who remain symptomatic despite H1-antihistamine treatment. This targeted therapy offers a significant advancement in managing severe allergic conditions.
