Prosia 5mcg Patch contains buprenorphine as its active ingredient. It is used to manage moderate to severe chronic pain and as part of opioid dependence treatment. The patch delivers a continuous dose of buprenorphine, a partial opioid agonist, through the skin into the bloodstream over an extended period. This helps maintain steady blood levels, reducing the risk of misuse or diversion.

The transdermal system bypasses the gastrointestinal tract, lowering the likelihood of common opioid-related side effects such as nausea and vomiting. The controlled release of buprenorphine may also reduce the incidence of other side effects. Using a patch simplifies the treatment regimen by eliminating the need for frequent dosing, which can improve adherence and reduce the risk of missed doses. This is particularly beneficial for individuals with complex medication schedules or difficulty swallowing pills.
