About
RANTAC 300 contains ranitidine, a histamine H2-receptor antagonist that works by blocking the action of histamine on the H2 receptors located on the parietal cells of the stomach. This blockade leads to a significant reduction in the secretion of gastric acid, both basal and stimulated. By decreasing the amount of acid produced, ranitidine helps to alleviate symptoms associated with excessive stomach acid, such as heartburn, indigestion, and acid reflux.
Its mechanism of action makes it effective in treating and preventing various acid-related conditions. Ranitidine is rapidly absorbed after oral administration and provides a sustained reduction in acid production, promoting the healing of ulcers and preventing their recurrence. While it was widely used, its availability has been impacted by concerns regarding N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA) impurities, leading to its withdrawal in many markets. However, for the purpose of this exercise, we assume its clinical context.
