About

Rasburnat 1.5mg Injection, containing Rasburicase, is an enzyme medication used for the initial management of plasma uric acid levels in pediatric and adult patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and solid tumor malignancies who are receiving anti-cancer therapy expected to result in tumor lysis syndrome (TLS) and subsequent hyperuricemia. TLS is a potentially life-threatening metabolic complication that can occur rapidly following the initiation of chemotherapy, leading to high levels of uric acid, potassium, and phosphate in the blood, which can cause acute kidney injury and cardiac arrhythmias.

Rasburicase works by catalyzing the enzymatic oxidation of uric acid into allantoin, a more soluble and easily excretable compound. This rapid conversion helps to prevent and treat hyperuricemia, thereby reducing the risk of renal failure and other complications associated with TLS. It is administered intravenously and its effects are typically seen quickly. Due to the risk of hypersensitivity reactions and methemoglobinemia, particularly in patients with G6PD deficiency, careful monitoring is required during and after administration.

Uses

  • Prevention of hyperuricemia in tumor lysis syndrome
  • Treatment of existing hyperuricemia in TLS
  • For patients with leukemia, lymphoma, and solid tumors
  • Reducing the risk of acute kidney injury from high uric acid
