About

Risperidone, the primary component in Risdone Plus, is an atypical antipsychotic medication used for the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar mania, and irritability associated with autistic disorder. It exerts its therapeutic effects by blocking dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT2A receptors in the brain, which helps to alleviate both positive symptoms (e.g., hallucinations, delusions) and negative symptoms (e.g., apathy, social withdrawal) of psychosis. This dual receptor antagonism contributes to its efficacy while generally presenting a lower risk of extrapyramidal side effects compared to older, typical antipsychotics, particularly at lower doses. Risperidone is metabolized in the liver to an active metabolite, 9-hydroxyrisperidone, which also contributes significantly to its overall pharmacological activity and therapeutic benefits.
