About
TENEPRIDE 20 MG TAB contains Teneligliptin, an oral antidiabetic agent belonging to the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor class. Its mechanism of action involves selectively inhibiting the enzyme DPP-4, which is responsible for the rapid degradation of incretin hormones, namely glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP). By preventing the breakdown of these incretins, Teneligliptin prolongs their active half-life, leading to increased glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and suppressed glucagon secretion from pancreatic alpha cells. This dual action effectively lowers postprandial and fasting blood glucose levels without significantly increasing the risk of hypoglycemia.
Teneligliptin is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus as an adjunct to diet and exercise. It can be used as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents. Its unique pharmacokinetic profile, including its long duration of action and minimal renal excretion, makes it a suitable option for a broad range of patients, including those with mild to moderate renal impairment, contributing to improved glycemic control and reduced HbA1c levels.
