About

TORPRES-20 TAB 10X10 contains Torsemide, a potent loop diuretic primarily used for the treatment of edema associated with congestive heart failure, renal disease, or hepatic cirrhosis, and for the management of hypertension. Torsemide acts on the thick ascending limb of the loop of Henle in the kidneys, inhibiting the reabsorption of sodium and chloride ions. This leads to a significant increase in the excretion of water, sodium, chloride, and potassium, thereby reducing fluid overload and lowering blood pressure. Its rapid onset and relatively long duration of action make it an effective agent for managing fluid retention and its associated symptoms, such as shortness of breath and swelling.

Torsemide is particularly useful in patients requiring strong diuretic action or those who have not responded adequately to less potent diuretics.

Uses

  • Treatment of edema associated with congestive heart failure.
  • Management of edema in chronic renal disease.
  • Treatment of edema in hepatic cirrhosis.
  • Management of essential hypertension.

Directions For Use

Take one tablet orally once daily, preferably in the morning, with or without food, as directed by your physician.

  • Effective for reducing fluid overload.
  • Helps manage symptoms like shortness of breath and swelling.

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - Alcohol may enhance the hypotensive and dehydrating effects of torsemide, increasing the risk of dizziness or fainting. It is advisable to limit or avoid alcohol consumption.
  • Pregnancy - Torsemide should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It may cause electrolyte disturbances and fetal growth restriction.
  • Breastfeeding - It is unknown if torsemide is excreted in human milk. Due to the potential for serious adverse reactions in a breastfed infant, breastfeeding is not recommended.
  • Liver - Use with caution in patients with hepatic cirrhosis and ascites, as electrolyte and fluid imbalances can precipitate hepatic encephalopathy. Close monitoring is essential.
  • Kidney - Use with caution in patients with severe renal impairment. Regular monitoring of kidney function and electrolytes is crucial, and dose adjustments may be required.
  • Lung - Generally safe for use in patients with lung conditions. However, rapid diuresis can sometimes lead to electrolyte imbalances that might indirectly affect respiratory function in very sensitive individuals.
