About

Trastuzumab is a targeted monoclonal antibody therapy that specifically binds to the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) protein. HER2 is overexpressed in a subset of aggressive breast and gastric cancers, driving uncontrolled cell growth and proliferation. By attaching to the HER2 receptor on cancer cells, trastuzumab effectively blocks signaling pathways that promote tumor growth and also triggers the immune system to destroy these cancer cells through antibody-dependent cell-mediated cytotoxicity (ADCC).

This mechanism of action makes trastuzumab a highly effective treatment for HER2-positive malignancies, significantly improving patient prognosis and extending survival. It is a critical component of modern oncology regimens, often used in combination with chemotherapy.

Uses

  • HER2-positive early breast cancer
  • HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer
  • HER2-positive metastatic gastric cancer
  • HER2-positive metastatic gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma
