About

AMLOKIND BETA 50 TAB is a combination medication containing Amlodipine, a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker (CCB), and Metoprolol, a beta-1 selective beta-blocker. Amlodipine works by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to peripheral vasodilation and reduced afterload, thereby lowering blood pressure and reducing myocardial oxygen demand. Metoprolol selectively blocks beta-1 adrenergic receptors, primarily in the heart, reducing heart rate, myocardial contractility, and cardiac output, which contributes to its antihypertensive and anti-anginal effects.

This combination provides comprehensive control of hypertension and angina by targeting different physiological mechanisms. The synergistic action helps to achieve effective blood pressure reduction and symptom control, especially in patients who do not respond adequately to monotherapy. It also helps to mitigate reflex tachycardia that might occur with Amlodipine alone. Regular monitoring of heart rate, blood pressure, and potential side effects is important during treatment.

Uses

  • Treatment of essential hypertension.
  • Management of chronic stable angina.
  • When monotherapy with a CCB or beta-blocker is insufficient.
  • Reduction of cardiovascular risk in high-risk patients.

Take orally once daily, preferably at the same time each day, with or without food, as directed by your physician.

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - Alcohol can potentiate the hypotensive effects of this combination, increasing the risk of dizziness and lightheadedness. Limit alcohol intake.
  • Pregnancy - Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus. Consult a doctor.
  • Breastfeeding - Both Amlodipine and Metoprolol are excreted in breast milk. It is generally not recommended during breastfeeding.
  • Liver - Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment; dosage adjustments may be necessary, especially for Metoprolol.
  • Kidney - Use with caution in patients with severe renal impairment; dosage adjustments may be necessary.
  • Lung - Use with caution in patients with bronchial asthma or COPD, as Metoprolol, even if beta-1 selective, can cause bronchospasm at higher doses.
