About

Apremilast is an oral phosphodiesterase 4 (PDE4) inhibitor indicated for the treatment of psoriatic arthritis and moderate to severe plaque psoriasis. It works intracellularly to modulate a network of pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory mediators. By inhibiting PDE4, apremilast increases intracellular cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) levels, which in turn downregulates the expression of several pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-17, and IL-23, while upregulating the anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-10. This mechanism helps to reduce inflammation and slow the progression of the disease.
