About

BACLESTA OD (Baclofen) is a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant and antispastic agent, primarily indicated for the alleviation of signs and symptoms of spasticity. This condition often results from neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injuries, and other severe spinal cord diseases. Baclofen exerts its therapeutic effects by acting as an agonist at gamma-aminobutyric acid B (GABA-B) receptors, predominantly in the spinal cord. This action leads to hyperpolarization of afferent terminals and presynaptic inhibition of excitatory neurotransmitter release, effectively reducing the hyperexcitability of motor neurons. Consequently, it decreases the frequency and severity of muscle spasms, clonus, and associated pain, significantly improving muscle function, range of motion, and overall mobility. The "OD" formulation signifies a sustained-release version, designed for convenient once-daily dosing to maintain consistent therapeutic levels throughout the day.
