About

Amisulpride is an atypical antipsychotic primarily used in the treatment of acute and chronic schizophrenic disorders. It selectively blocks dopamine D2 and D3 receptors in the limbic system, which helps to alleviate both positive and negative symptoms of psychosis, such as hallucinations, delusions, apathy, and social withdrawal. This targeted action minimizes some of the common side effects associated with older antipsychotics. At lower doses, it can also act as an effective antiemetic by blocking D2 receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone, making it useful for severe nausea and vomiting, particularly post-operative. The injectable form is typically reserved for rapid control of acute psychotic episodes, severe agitation, or intractable nausea and vomiting, providing quick relief when oral administration is not feasible or immediate action is required in a clinical setting to stabilize the patient's condition.
