About

Trastuzumab is a recombinant DNA-derived humanized monoclonal antibody that selectively binds with high affinity to the extracellular domain of the human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) protein. Overexpression of HER2 is observed in a subset of breast and gastric cancers and is associated with aggressive disease. Trastuzumab works by inhibiting the proliferation of human tumor cells that overexpress HER2.

This targeted therapy helps to block the growth signals that drive cancer cell division and survival, leading to tumor regression or stabilization. It is often used in combination with chemotherapy or as a single agent, depending on the specific cancer type and stage, and requires HER2 testing to confirm suitability for treatment.

Uses

  • HER2-positive metastatic breast cancer
  • Adjuvant treatment of HER2-positive early breast cancer
  • HER2-positive metastatic gastric or gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinoma
  • Neoadjuvant treatment of HER2-positive early breast cancer
