About

Cardace 10mg contains Ramipril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, widely prescribed for the management of essential hypertension, symptomatic heart failure, and for reducing cardiovascular risk. Ramipril works by inhibiting the enzyme responsible for converting angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a potent vasoconstrictor. This action leads to vasodilation, decreased peripheral vascular resistance, and reduced aldosterone secretion, collectively lowering blood pressure. Furthermore, by reducing the effects of angiotensin II, Ramipril helps to prevent and reverse cardiac remodeling, making it particularly beneficial in patients with heart failure and post-myocardial infarction.

Its ability to improve endothelial function and reduce proteinuria also contributes to its significant role in protecting the kidneys, especially in diabetic patients with early signs of nephropathy. Ramipril's comprehensive cardiovascular benefits extend to reducing the incidence of major cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction, stroke, and cardiovascular death in high-risk individuals. Its well-established efficacy and safety profile make it a cornerstone in the long-term management of various cardiovascular conditions.

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - Alcohol can enhance the blood pressure-lowering effect of Ramipril, potentially leading to dizziness or fainting. Avoid or limit alcohol intake.
  • Pregnancy - Ramipril is contraindicated during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy due to significant risk of fetal injury and death.
  • Breastfeeding - Not recommended during breastfeeding as Ramipril may pass into breast milk and could harm the infant.
  • Liver - Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment, as Ramipril is a prodrug activated in the liver. Monitor liver function.
  • Kidney - Use with caution in patients with renal impairment; monitor kidney function closely, especially in those with severe renal disease or renal artery stenosis.
  • Lung - Ramipril can cause a persistent dry cough, which is a common side effect of ACE inhibitors. Consult a doctor if the cough is bothersome.
