COLOZIA 500 MG TAB contains Colistin Sulfate, a polymyxin antibiotic primarily used for its potent bactericidal activity against multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacteria. It acts by disrupting the bacterial cell membrane. Colistin, being a cationic polypeptide, interacts with the anionic lipopolysaccharide (LPS) of the outer membrane of Gram-negative bacteria, displacing essential divalent cations (calcium and magnesium). This disruption leads to increased permeability of the bacterial cell membrane, causing leakage of intracellular contents and ultimately cell death.
