About

Cytoblastine Injection, containing Vinblastine, is a vinca alkaloid chemotherapy agent used in the treatment of various cancers. Similar to other vinca alkaloids, vinblastine exerts its cytotoxic effects by interfering with microtubule assembly, which is critical for cell division. By disrupting the formation of the mitotic spindle, it arrests cancer cells in the metaphase of mitosis, leading to programmed cell death. This mechanism makes it effective against rapidly proliferating malignant cells.

Vinblastine is commonly used in the management of Hodgkin's lymphoma, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, breast cancer, testicular cancer, and Kaposi's sarcoma. It is administered intravenously and requires careful handling due to its vesicant properties. While it shares a class with vincristine, vinblastine's dose-limiting toxicity is primarily myelosuppression (bone marrow suppression), particularly leukopenia, rather than neurotoxicity. Regular monitoring of blood counts is essential during treatment to manage potential hematological side effects.
