About

Denosumab is a fully human monoclonal antibody that specifically targets and binds with high affinity to RANK ligand (RANKL), a transmembrane or soluble protein crucial for the formation, function, and survival of osteoclasts. Osteoclasts are specialized cells responsible for bone resorption, the process by which bone tissue is broken down. By effectively inhibiting RANKL, denosumab prevents its interaction with the RANK receptor on osteoclast precursors and mature osteoclasts, thereby suppressing osteoclastogenesis and reducing bone resorption. This leads to a significant decrease in bone turnover and a subsequent increase in bone mineral density. Clinically, it is utilized for the treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis in women at high risk of fracture, to increase bone mass in men with osteoporosis, and to prevent skeletal-related events such as pathological fractures or spinal cord compression in patients with bone metastases from solid tumors, offering a potent anti-resorptive therapy.
