About
Tamsulosin 0.4mg is an alpha-1 adrenergic antagonist specifically designed for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It works by selectively blocking alpha-1A adrenergic receptors located in the smooth muscle of the prostate gland and bladder neck. This blockade leads to relaxation of these muscles, which in turn reduces the obstruction of urine flow from the bladder. As a result, symptoms such as weak urinary stream, hesitancy, urgency, and frequent urination are significantly improved.
Tamsulosin does not reduce the size of the prostate but rather improves the dynamic component of BPH by relaxing the smooth muscle tone. Its selective action minimizes effects on blood pressure compared to non-selective alpha-blockers, making it a preferred choice for many BPH patients.
