FAROZOX 200 TAB contains Faropenem, an oral penem antibiotic, which is structurally related to carbapenems. It exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Faropenem binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) within the bacterial cell wall, thereby preventing the cross-linking of peptidoglycan chains, which are essential for the structural integrity of the bacterial cell wall. This disruption leads to cell lysis and bacterial death. Faropenem has a broad spectrum of activity against Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and anaerobic bacteria, including some strains that are resistant to other antibiotics.
