About

Ferric Carboxymaltose (FCM) is an intravenous iron preparation used for the rapid and effective treatment of iron deficiency anemia when oral iron is ineffective or cannot be tolerated. It delivers iron directly to the reticuloendothelial system, where it is released and incorporated into hemoglobin, myoglobin, and other iron-containing enzymes. This formulation allows for the administration of a high dose of iron in a single or few infusions, quickly replenishing iron stores and increasing hemoglobin levels.

It is particularly beneficial for patients with chronic kidney disease, inflammatory bowel disease, or those who have undergone bariatric surgery, where oral iron absorption is compromised. The rapid repletion helps alleviate symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, and shortness of breath, significantly improving the patient's quality of life.

Uses

  • Treatment of iron deficiency anemia.
  • When oral iron is ineffective or poorly tolerated.
  • In patients with chronic kidney disease not on dialysis.
  • For iron deficiency in inflammatory bowel disease.

Directions For Use

Administer intravenously as a slow infusion by a healthcare professional. Dosage is determined by the patient's iron deficit and body weight.
