About

GLIMULIN MV 2MG is a comprehensive triple-combination medication for Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, containing Glimipiride, Metformin, and Vildagliptin. Glimipiride, a sulfonylurea, stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells, directly lowering blood glucose. Metformin, a biguanide, reduces hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal glucose absorption, and enhances insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues. Vildagliptin, a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, increases levels of incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP), which in turn boost glucose-dependent insulin secretion and suppress glucagon release.

This synergistic combination targets multiple pathophysiological defects of Type 2 Diabetes, providing robust glycemic control. It is particularly useful for patients who have not achieved adequate blood sugar management with dual therapy or who require more intensive treatment. By combining these three agents, GLIMULIN MV 2MG aims to effectively reduce both fasting and post-prandial glucose levels, thereby lowering HbA1c and helping to prevent long-term complications, always as an adjunct to diet and exercise.

Uses

  • Comprehensive management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
  • When dual therapy with Metformin and a DPP-4 inhibitor or sulfonylurea is insufficient.
  • As an adjunct to diet and exercise for improved glycemic control.
  • To achieve stringent glycemic targets in adult patients.

Directions For Use

Take orally with meals, usually once or twice daily, as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with water, do not crush or chew.

Benefits

  • Potent and comprehensive blood glucose reduction.
  • Targets multiple pathways of glucose dysregulation.
  • Significant reduction in HbA1c levels.
  • Improved insulin secretion and sensitivity.
  • Effective for patients requiring intensive glycemic control.
  • Convenient triple-drug therapy in one tablet.

Side Effects

  • Hypoglycemia (more common due to Glimipiride)
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Vomiting
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Weight gain
  • Fatigue
  • Nasopharyngitis
  • Lactic acidosis (rare, serious with Metformin)
  • Pancreatitis (rare, with Vildagliptin)

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - Avoid excessive alcohol consumption due to increased risk of hypoglycemia (with Glimipiride) and lactic acidosis (with Metformin).
  • Pregnancy - Contraindicated during pregnancy due to potential fetal harm and increased risk of neonatal hypoglycemia. Insulin is generally preferred.
  • Breastfeeding - Not recommended during breastfeeding as components may pass into breast milk and cause hypoglycemia in the infant.
  • Liver - Contraindicated in severe hepatic impairment due to increased risk of lactic acidosis and prolonged drug effects.
  • Kidney - Contraindicated in severe renal impairment (eGFR <30 mL/min/1.73m²). Dosage adjustment is crucial for moderate impairment.
  • Lung - Use with caution in conditions causing hypoxia (e.g., severe lung disease) as it may increase the risk of lactic acidosis.
