About

Cefpodoxime Proxetil is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed to its active form, cefpodoxime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It exerts its bactericidal action by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, a crucial process for bacterial survival. It is effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Clavulanic Acid is a potent beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects cefpodoxime from degradation by bacterial enzymes, thereby significantly extending its spectrum of activity to include many resistant strains that produce beta-lactamases. This combination is particularly useful for treating bacterial infections that are caused by beta-lactamase producing organisms, ensuring effective eradication of pathogens in conditions such as respiratory tract infections (e.g., acute bacterial sinusitis, community-acquired pneumonia), complicated urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections. This synergistic approach enhances the antibiotic's efficacy against a wider range of challenging infections.

  • Treatment of acute bacterial sinusitis.
