About

Icufos O Sachet contains Fosfomycin, a broad-spectrum antibiotic primarily used for the treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs). It works by inhibiting an early stage of bacterial cell wall synthesis, specifically by inactivating the enzyme enolpyruvyl transferase. This unique mechanism of action prevents bacteria from forming their protective cell walls, leading to their death. Fosfomycin is particularly effective against common uropathogens, including Escherichia coli and Enterococcus faecalis, and has a low rate of resistance.

This medication is typically administered as a single-dose treatment, which is highly convenient for patients and helps improve compliance. Its ability to achieve high concentrations in the urine and maintain therapeutic levels for an extended period makes it an excellent choice for acute, uncomplicated cystitis. The sachet formulation ensures easy oral administration, dissolving in water to provide a palatable solution.

Uses

  • Treatment of acute uncomplicated urinary tract infections (cystitis).
  • Prophylaxis of urinary tract infections in transurethral surgical procedures.
  • Eradication of susceptible bacterial pathogens in the urinary tract.
  • Management of recurrent UTIs in specific cases.

Directions For Use

Dissolve the contents of one sachet in half a glass of water (50-100 ml), stir well, and drink immediately. Take it preferably on an empty stomach, 2-3 hours after a meal, usually at bedtime after emptying the bladder.

  • Breastfeeding - Fosfomycin is excreted in small amounts into breast milk. It is generally considered compatible with breastfeeding, but caution is advised, and a healthcare professional should be consulted.
  • Liver - Fosfomycin is primarily excreted unchanged by the kidneys, with minimal hepatic metabolism. No specific dose adjustment is usually needed for liver conditions.
