About
Kabiceftam is a potent injectable antibiotic combining Cefoperazone, a third-generation cephalosporin, with Sulbactam, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Cefoperazone exerts its bactericidal effect by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. However, many bacteria produce beta-lactamase enzymes that can inactivate cefoperazone. Sulbactam acts as a suicide inhibitor of these beta-lactamases, protecting cefoperazone from degradation and significantly broadening its spectrum of activity. This synergistic combination is highly effective against a wide array of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including many resistant strains that produce beta-lactamases. It is particularly valuable for treating severe and complicated infections in various body systems, such as intra-abdominal, respiratory, urinary tract, and skin and soft tissue infections, where broad-spectrum coverage and resistance overcoming capabilities are crucial.

Safety Measures
- Alcohol - Avoid alcohol during treatment and for several days after, as cefoperazone can cause a disulfiram-like reaction (flushing, nausea, vomiting, headache).
- Pregnancy - Use with caution and only if clearly indicated. Consult a doctor, as adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women are lacking.
- Breastfeeding - Both components are excreted in breast milk in small amounts. Use with caution; monitor the infant for gastrointestinal upset or rash.
- Liver - Use with caution in patients with significant liver disease or biliary obstruction, as cefoperazone is primarily excreted in bile.
- Kidney - Dose adjustment may be necessary in patients with severe renal impairment. Monitor renal function during treatment.
- Lung - Indicated for respiratory tract infections. No specific contraindications related to underlying lung conditions.
