About

Kivipride-200 contains Amisulpride, an atypical antipsychotic medication primarily used in the treatment of acute and chronic schizophrenic disorders. At lower doses (e.g., 50-300mg), it acts as a selective dopamine D2/D3 receptor antagonist, preferentially blocking presynaptic dopamine autoreceptors, which leads to an increase in dopaminergic transmission. This mechanism is thought to be responsible for its efficacy in treating negative symptoms of schizophrenia and its antidepressant effects. At higher doses, it blocks postsynaptic D2/D3 receptors, effectively managing positive symptoms like hallucinations and delusions. Amisulpride has a relatively low propensity for extrapyramidal side effects compared to conventional antipsychotics.

Its unique pharmacological profile allows for a dose-dependent effect, making it versatile in managing the diverse symptomology of schizophrenia. The selective action on dopamine receptors contributes to its favorable side effect profile regarding motor symptoms, which are common with older antipsychotics. However, patients should be monitored for other potential side effects, including elevated prolactin levels and QT prolongation. Regular medical supervision is crucial to ensure optimal therapeutic outcomes and to manage any adverse reactions effectively.

Uses

  • Treatment of acute and chronic schizophrenic disorders.
  • Management of positive symptoms (e.g., delusions, hallucinations).
  • Treatment of negative symptoms (e.g., apathy, social withdrawal).
  • Adjunctive treatment for major depressive disorder (off-label in some regions).

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - Avoid alcohol consumption as it can enhance the sedative effects of amisulpride and increase the risk of central nervous system depression.
  • Pregnancy - Use during pregnancy is generally not recommended, especially in the third trimester, due to potential for withdrawal symptoms and extrapyramidal signs in the neonate. Consult a doctor.
  • Breastfeeding - Amisulpride is excreted in breast milk. Breastfeeding is generally not recommended due to potential adverse effects on the infant.
  • Liver - Generally, no specific dosage adjustment is required for liver impairment, but caution is advised in severe cases.
  • Kidney - Dosage adjustments are necessary in patients with moderate to severe renal impairment due to reduced drug clearance.
  • Lung - Generally safe for use in patients with stable lung conditions; however, monitor for any respiratory depression if co-administered with other CNS depressants.
