About

Lactihep Syrup primarily contains Lactulose, a synthetic disaccharide that functions as an osmotic laxative. When ingested, lactulose passes largely undigested into the large intestine, where it is metabolized by colonic bacteria. This process leads to the production of organic acids and gases, which in turn draw water into the colon. The increased water content softens the stool and increases its bulk, stimulating peristalsis and promoting easier bowel movements. Beyond its laxative properties, lactulose is also crucial in the management of hepatic encephalopathy. In this condition, it helps to reduce the absorption of ammonia from the gut by lowering the pH of the colon, converting ammonia (NH3) to ammonium (NH4+), which is then trapped and excreted in the feces. This dual action makes Lactihep an effective treatment for chronic constipation and a vital component in managing certain liver-related neurological complications.
