About

Etoposide is a semisynthetic derivative of podophyllotoxin, classified as a topoisomerase II inhibitor. It exerts its cytotoxic effects by forming a ternary complex with topoisomerase II and DNA, leading to DNA strand breaks and inhibition of DNA synthesis. This action primarily occurs in the late S and G2 phases of the cell cycle, making it highly effective against rapidly proliferating cells. Lastet 50mg Capsule is indicated for the treatment of various neoplastic conditions, including small cell lung cancer, testicular cancer, and certain lymphomas and leukemias. It is often used as a crucial component in combination chemotherapy regimens. Its mechanism of action fundamentally disrupts the integrity of the cancer cell's genetic material, preventing successful replication and ultimately inducing programmed cell death (apoptosis). The oral formulation provides a convenient administration route for maintenance therapy or specific treatment protocols, allowing for outpatient management while maintaining therapeutic efficacy.
