About

Losavert 16 mg Tablets contain Losartan, a highly selective angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that plays a pivotal role in the management of cardiovascular conditions. Losartan exerts its therapeutic effects by specifically blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor. This receptor is widely distributed in various tissues, including vascular smooth muscle, the adrenal glands, and the kidneys, where angiotensin II typically mediates potent vasoconstriction, aldosterone secretion, and cellular proliferation.

By antagonizing the AT1 receptor, Losartan effectively prevents these detrimental actions, leading to significant vasodilation, a reduction in systemic vascular resistance, and a decrease in blood pressure. Furthermore, it mitigates sodium and water retention, contributing to its antihypertensive effects. This mechanism not only provides effective blood pressure control but also offers organ protection, particularly in conditions such as diabetic nephropathy, by reducing intraglomerular pressure and proteinuria.
