About

NEBI 2.5 TAB 10 contains Nebivolol, a highly selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker with additional vasodilatory properties mediated by nitric oxide release. It is primarily used in the management of essential hypertension and chronic heart failure. Unlike some other beta-blockers, nebivolol exhibits a unique pharmacological profile that contributes to its favorable tolerability and efficacy. By selectively blocking beta-1 receptors in the heart, it reduces heart rate and myocardial contractility, thereby decreasing cardiac output and blood pressure.

Its vasodilatory effect further contributes to blood pressure reduction by lowering peripheral vascular resistance. This dual mechanism of action makes nebivolol an effective agent for controlling blood pressure and improving cardiac function, particularly in patients who may benefit from its vasodilatory properties.

Uses

  • Treatment of essential hypertension.
  • Management of stable chronic heart failure.
  • Reduction of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity.
  • Improvement of left ventricular function.

Safety Measures

  • Alcohol - Alcohol may potentiate the hypotensive effects of nebivolol, increasing the risk of dizziness or fainting. It is advisable to limit or avoid alcohol consumption.
  • Pregnancy - Nebivolol should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It may cause fetal growth restriction, bradycardia, and hypoglycemia.
  • Breastfeeding - Nebivolol is excreted in breast milk. Due to the potential for serious adverse reactions in breastfed infants, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or discontinue the drug.
  • Liver - Use with caution in patients with moderate hepatic impairment; it is contraindicated in severe hepatic impairment. Dose adjustments are necessary.
  • Kidney - Use with caution in patients with renal impairment. Dose adjustments may be required, especially in severe renal dysfunction.
  • Lung - While nebivolol is beta-1 selective, it should be used with caution in patients with bronchospastic diseases (e.g., asthma, COPD) as it may worsen respiratory symptoms.
