About

Carboplatin is a platinum-based alkylating agent widely utilized in cancer chemotherapy. Its primary mechanism of action involves forming inter- and intra-strand DNA cross-links, which disrupts the normal structure and function of DNA within cancer cells. This interference prevents DNA replication and transcription, leading to cell cycle arrest and ultimately inducing apoptosis in rapidly proliferating malignant cells. Carboplatin is often administered intravenously, either as a single agent or, more commonly, in combination with other antineoplastic drugs to enhance its cytotoxic effects and broaden its spectrum of activity. Its efficacy is well-established across various solid tumors, making it a cornerstone in many oncology treatment protocols. The drug's cytotoxic effects are dose-dependent and primarily target rapidly dividing cells, including cancer cells and certain healthy cells, which accounts for its characteristic side effect profile.
