About

Pegcyte 6mg Injection contains Pegfilgrastim as its active ingredient and belongs to the class of granulocyte colony-stimulating factors (G-CSF). Approved by the FDA, this medication is used to reduce the risk and duration of febrile neutropenia—a condition involving fever or infection due to low white blood cell (WBC) counts—in patients undergoing bone marrow-suppressing chemotherapy. It is also indicated to improve survival rates in individuals exposed to radiation therapy, which can severely damage the bone marrow. Pegfilgrastim works by stimulating the production and function of blood-forming cells in the bone marrow.

Pegfilgrastim is a biotechnologically engineered protein produced in E. coli and belongs to the cytokine protein family. It mimics the natural granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) produced in the human body. Since WBCs play a crucial role in fighting infections, a drop in their levels—especially during chemotherapy—can leave the body vulnerable to serious infections. This medication helps boost WBC production to lower that risk.

Before starting Pegcyte 6mg Injection, inform your doctor if you have a history of liver or kidney disease, infections, fever, heart conditions, or a family history of kidney disorders. Do not use this medication if you are allergic to Pegfilgrastim, Filgrastim, or any of its components. Notify your healthcare provider immediately if you experience left upper abdominal pain, shoulder pain, or breathing difficulties, as these may be signs of serious side effects. The most commonly reported side effects include bone pain, as well as pain in the arms or legs.
