About

POMEROZ CAP, which is Omeprazole, is a highly effective proton pump inhibitor (PPI) specifically designed to profoundly reduce the production of gastric acid in the stomach. Its mechanism of action involves an irreversible binding to and inhibition of the H+/K+-ATPase enzyme system, commonly known as the proton pump, located within the secretory canaliculi of the gastric parietal cells. By blocking this final common pathway of acid secretion, Omeprazole achieves a significant and sustained reduction in gastric acid output. This potent acid-suppressing effect makes it exceptionally valuable in the treatment of conditions exacerbated by excessive stomach acid, such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers (both gastric and duodenal), and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It effectively promotes the healing of erosions and provides substantial relief from associated symptoms like heartburn. While generally well-tolerated for short-term use, prolonged therapy warrants careful consideration of potential long-term side effects.
