About

Pomalidomide is an immunomodulatory drug (IMiD) primarily used in the treatment of multiple myeloma. It works by modulating the immune system, inhibiting tumor cell proliferation, and inducing apoptosis in malignant hematopoietic cells. Its mechanism involves direct anti-myeloma activity, inhibition of angiogenesis, and enhancement of host anti-tumor immunity. Pomalidomide also affects cytokine production, reducing pro-inflammatory cytokines and increasing anti-inflammatory ones, contributing to its therapeutic effects.

It is often used in combination with dexamethasone for patients who have received at least two prior therapies, including lenalidomide and a proteasome inhibitor, and have demonstrated disease progression on or within 60 days of completion of the last therapy. Its efficacy stems from its ability to overcome resistance to other IMiDs.
