About
PULMOCEF CV 500 is a potent combination antibiotic formulated with Cefuroxime Axetil and Clavulanic Acid, designed to combat a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. Cefuroxime Axetil, a second-generation cephalosporin, exerts its bactericidal effect by interfering with bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to osmotic lysis and death of susceptible bacteria. It possesses a wide range of activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens. Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, plays a crucial role by irreversibly binding to and inactivating beta-lactamase enzymes produced by resistant bacteria. These enzymes would otherwise degrade cefuroxime, rendering it ineffective. By protecting cefuroxime from enzymatic hydrolysis, clavulanic acid significantly broadens the antibacterial spectrum of the combination, making it highly effective against many common respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and otitis media, including those caused by beta-lactamase-producing strains. This synergistic action ensures enhanced efficacy against resistant pathogens.
