About
RENIVA M 500 TAB is a combination medication for the treatment of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, containing Vildagliptin and Metformin. Vildagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that works by increasing the levels of active incretin hormones (GLP-1 and GIP). These hormones enhance glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and suppress glucagon secretion from alpha cells, leading to improved glucose homeostasis. Metformin, a biguanide, primarily reduces hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues. This synergistic combination addresses multiple pathophysiological defects in Type 2 Diabetes, providing comprehensive and effective glycemic control. It is particularly beneficial for patients who have not achieved adequate control with monotherapy or who require a more robust approach to manage their blood sugar levels and prevent long-term complications associated with uncontrolled hyperglycemia.

Safety Measures
- Alcohol - Avoid excessive alcohol consumption as it can increase the risk of hypoglycemia and lactic acidosis, especially with Metformin.
- Pregnancy - Generally not recommended during pregnancy. Insulin is usually preferred for glycemic control in pregnant women. Consult your doctor.
- Breastfeeding - Not recommended during breastfeeding as Metformin passes into breast milk and Vildagliptin data is limited. Consult your doctor.
- Liver - Use with caution in patients with liver conditions. Metformin is contraindicated in severe hepatic impairment. Vildagliptin is not recommended in severe hepatic impairment.
- Kidney - Contraindicated in severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 mL/min/1.73m²) due to Metformin. Dose adjustment is necessary for moderate impairment for both components.
- Lung - Use with caution in patients with severe respiratory conditions or acute heart failure, as these can increase the risk of lactic acidosis.
