About

Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate (TDF) is a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NtRTI) used in the treatment of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. It works by interfering with the reverse transcriptase enzyme, which is crucial for HIV and HBV replication. By inhibiting this enzyme, TDF prevents the viruses from multiplying and spreading in the body, thereby reducing viral load and improving immune function in HIV patients, and decreasing liver inflammation and damage in HBV patients.

TDF is often part of a highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) regimen for HIV and is a first-line treatment option for chronic HBV due to its potent antiviral activity and relatively good safety profile, helping to prevent disease progression and long-term complications. Its efficacy makes it a cornerstone in managing these chronic viral infections.

Uses

  • Treatment of HIV-1 infection (in combination with other antiretrovirals).
  • Treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection.
  • Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV-1 (in combination with emtricitabine).
  • Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) for HIV-1 (in combination with other antiretrovirals).

Take orally once daily with food. Adhere strictly to the prescribed dosage and do not miss doses.
