Sandostatin LAR 30mg Injection contains octreotide, a synthetic form of somatostatin—a naturally occurring substance in the body that blocks the action of certain hormones, including growth hormone. This medication is primarily used to reduce excess growth hormone levels in individuals with acromegaly, especially when surgery, radiation, or other treatments are not suitable or effective. Acromegaly causes abnormal enlargement of body parts like the hands, feet, and facial features, along with joint pain and other symptoms.

Additionally, Sandostatin LAR is used to manage symptoms such as diarrhea and flushing caused by carcinoid tumors (slow-growing tumors that release hormone-like substances), and VIPomas—tumors of the pancreas that secrete vasoactive intestinal peptide. It is also used to prevent complications after pancreatic surgery and to stop or prevent re-bleeding from ruptured gastro-esophageal varices in patients with chronic liver disease.

The injection is also prescribed for treating pituitary tumors that produce excessive thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), particularly when surgery or radiotherapy is not an option or has been ineffective. It can also be used temporarily after radiotherapy until the treatment takes full effect.

Do not use this medication if you are allergic to octreotide or any of its ingredients.
