About
SGLTD M 10/1000 is a combination medication used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. It contains Dapagliflozin, a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor, and Metformin, a biguanide. Dapagliflozin works by inhibiting SGLT2 in the kidneys, reducing glucose reabsorption and increasing glucose excretion in the urine, thereby lowering blood glucose levels independently of insulin. Metformin primarily reduces hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.
This dual mechanism of action provides comprehensive glycemic control, addressing different pathophysiological aspects of type 2 diabetes. The combination is particularly beneficial for patients who require improved glycemic control and may also benefit from the cardiovascular and renal protective effects associated with SGLT2 inhibitors, contributing to better long-term outcomes.
