About

Teglin is an oral antidiabetic medication belonging to the dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor class. It works by increasing the levels of incretin hormones, such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), which are naturally released throughout the day and in response to meals. These hormones play a crucial role in glucose homeostasis by stimulating insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells and suppressing glucagon secretion from alpha cells in a glucose-dependent manner. This mechanism helps to lower both fasting and post-meal blood glucose levels without significantly increasing the risk of hypoglycemia when used as monotherapy. Teglin is typically used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Its action is glucose-dependent, meaning it primarily works when blood glucose levels are elevated, offering a favorable safety profile.
