Tamsulosin, an alpha-1 blocker, rapidly relaxes the smooth muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, which quickly improves urine flow and reduces bothersome urinary symptoms like urgency, frequency, and a weak stream. Finasteride, a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor, works by blocking the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone responsible for prostate growth.
