About

Telmisartan 40 mg is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension and for cardiovascular risk reduction in patients aged 55 years or older at high risk of cardiovascular events. It works by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in various tissues, including vascular smooth muscle and the adrenal gland. This blockade prevents the vasoconstrictive and aldosterone-secreting effects of angiotensin II, leading to vasodilation, decreased peripheral vascular resistance, and reduced sodium and water retention, ultimately lowering blood pressure. Its long half-life allows for once-daily dosing, providing consistent blood pressure control throughout the 24-hour period.
