About

Goserelin is a synthetic analogue of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), also known as luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH), designed for sustained release. Its mechanism of action involves a biphasic effect on the pituitary gland. Initially, it causes a transient surge in the release of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), which can lead to a temporary increase in sex hormone levels (testosterone in men, estrogen in women). However, continuous administration of goserelin leads to the desensitization and downregulation of GnRH receptors in the pituitary. This sustained suppression results in a significant and prolonged reduction of LH and FSH secretion, consequently lowering sex hormone levels to castration levels. The 10.8mg formulation is a long-acting depot injection, administered every 12 weeks, providing consistent and profound hormonal suppression. This makes it an invaluable therapeutic option for hormone-sensitive cancers, such as advanced prostate and breast cancer, as well as other conditions benefiting from sex hormone reduction.
