About

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) is a naturally occurring glycoprotein hormone, predominantly synthesized by the placenta during pregnancy, playing a critical role in maintaining the corpus luteum. In clinical practice, pharmaceutical preparations of hCG, whether recombinant or derived from purified human urine, are utilized for their ability to mimic the actions of luteinizing hormone (LH). In women, hCG is instrumental in triggering ovulation in cases of anovulatory infertility and is also employed to support the luteal phase in assisted reproductive technologies, thereby enhancing the chances of successful implantation and early pregnancy maintenance. For men, hCG stimulates the Leydig cells in the testes to produce testosterone and promotes spermatogenesis, making it valuable in treating hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. Its therapeutic effects are mediated by binding to LH receptors, which subsequently stimulates steroidogenesis and facilitates the maturation of gametes.
