About

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that hydrolyzes hyaluronic acid, a major component of the extracellular matrix and connective tissue. By breaking down hyaluronic acid, it temporarily reduces the viscosity of the interstitial fluid, thereby increasing the permeability of connective tissue. This action facilitates the dispersion and absorption of injected fluids, drugs, and local anesthetics, and can also aid in the resorption of extravasated blood or fluid.

This enzymatic action makes hyaluronidase a valuable adjunct in various medical procedures, improving the spread of medications and fluids within tissues. Its temporary effect ensures that the tissue integrity is restored after the desired dispersion has occurred, making it a safe and effective tool for enhancing drug delivery and managing certain tissue-related issues.

Uses

  • Facilitating the dispersion and absorption of subcutaneous or intramuscular injections.
  • Enhancing the diffusion of local anesthetics.
  • Promoting the absorption of extravasated fluids or blood.
  • Adjunct in subcutaneous fluid administration (hypodermoclysis).

Directions For Use

Administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly, often mixed with the primary medication or injected prior to it. Dosage depends on the volume and nature of the fluid to be dispersed.

Benefits

  • Increases absorption rate of injected medications.
  • Reduces pain and swelling associated with injections.
  • Improves efficacy of local anesthetics.
  • Facilitates fluid administration in hypodermoclysis.
  • Aids in the resolution of hematomas.
  • Can be used to manage extravasation injuries.

Side Effects

  • Local irritation or pain at injection site
  • Erythema (redness)
  • Edema (swelling)
  • Pruritus (itching)
  • Urticaria (hives)
  • Allergic reactions (rare, including anaphylaxis)
  • Hypersensitivity reactions
